Therapy has come a long way since it involved lying on a couch seeking answers by digging deeper and deeper into one’s past. Although movement may be seen as a physical need, I think it’s an emotional one too. Science has shown that exercise boosts mood and can be as beneficial as anti-depressant medication. Combine this with the health giving benefits of the natural environment and you can begin to see a new perspective on life.
For these reasons, I’m just as likely to suggest a therapy session outdoors, while we take in the breathtaking beauty of river and moor. Walking can centre and ground you, helping you focus attention and calm your mind. Working from the Human Givens approach I can then help you begin to move towards the life you want, never forgetting that fun and laughter are also therapeutic!
Walk on the wild side!
If you’d like to explore your current situation more intensively, I can design a programme over a day or two. A combination of walking, talking and bodywork will help to relax your mind and body, paving the way to success. Movement, touch and fun are all vital elements of a healthy life. Accommodation can be arranged at one of the excellent bed and breakfasts in the village, and two pubs nearby provide good evening meals.
Labyrinth walking
The therapeutic effects of walking the path of a labyrinth are well documented. I have a portable canvas labyrinth which can be incorporated into individual sessions or used as a group activity.
